Do individuals try to maximize general satisfaction?

چکیده

The hypothesis that individuals try to maximize their life-satisfaction is analyzed. The approach was to derive empirically testable predictions as to the relationships between intentions, actions, importance weights, and satisfaction levels that would be consistent with the hypothesis, and to test these predictions on a Russian and a German panel data set. The respondents investigated were more likely to intend to change those areas they are unsatis®ed with in this period, were more likely to actually have changed those areas they were unsatis®ed with in the last period, and tended to ®nd the areas of their lives they were dissatis®ed with less important. The relationships were not very strong though and were more reliable for the German data set than for the Russian data set. The ®ndings therefore give only limited support to the hypothesis examined. Interdependent Security Game Design over Constrained Linear Influence Networks

In today's highly interconnected networks, security of the entities are often interdependent. This means security decisions of the agents are not only influenced by their own costs and constraints, but also are affected by their neighbors’ decisions. Game theory provides a rich set of tools to analyze such influence networks. In the game model, players try to maximize their utilities through se...

Satisfaction Function in Present Undesirable Factors

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is an efficient method to perform evaluation of units. In DEA we try to evaluate units with undesirable factors in input & outputs by satisfaction function, testing some models. On the other hand benefiting this concept, we can identify non-efficient units. Also we can recognize why these units are inefficient and calculate the reason of their inefficiency and ho...

Optimizing the warranty period by cuckoo meta-heuristic algorithm in heterogeneous customers’ population

Warranty is now an integral part of each product. Since its length is directly related to the cost of production, it should be set in such a way that it would maximize revenue generation and customers’ satisfaction. Furthermore, based on the behavior of customers, it is assumed that increasing the warranty period to earn the trust of more customers leads to more sales until the market is sat...

Satisfaction Equilibrium: Achieving Cooperation in Incomplete Information Games

So far, most equilibrium concepts in game theory require that the rewards and actions of the other agents are known and/or observed by all agents. However, in real life problems, agents are generally faced with situations where they only have partial or no knowledge about their environment and the other agents evolving in it. In this context, all an agent can do is reasoning about its own payof...
